| Clandestino Charters operates
from May through October. In accordance with the charter
company, Keper commercially fishes for Lobster and Bluefin Tuna.
The 2007 season was shifty, with a slow
run of lobsters in early June. As they began to molt, or
shed, the lobsters were a bit more predictable. Keper
sells all of his catch locally through his small retail shop at
Rye Harbor. You can purchase his lobsters as well as other
local seasonal produce at Clandestino Market.
The 2007 Bluefin season was a better one
for Keper. He put some heavy time in at the curl and other
spots from July through October. He hooked 15 fish of market
quality but only landed 5 worthy of Japan. The prices were
fair and Keper was pleased with his efforts.
As the weather changed and the species
migrated, so did Keper. He helped a friend, Ben Raley,
sail his boat from Ecuador to the Pacific side of the Panama
canal. It was a 10 day trip full of surprises. A 10
day passage 120 miles offshore yields amazing sunrises, magnificent
star constellations and lots of wild animals. The fishing
was good too. We landed a few mahi-mahi and lost several
sailfish.
From there Keper took a job on a Mega
yacht stationed out of St Marten in the Dutch West Indies.
He was a mate on the boat. It was 155' in total, so he was
rather busy. He stayed there from December to February.
From there he returned home for a brief time, only to leave
again. He went to Argentina to visit his father who had
been there since early November. They caught up for a bit
and enjoyed the great city of Buenos Aires together.
Keper is now back in Rye, repairing and
updating his business and eagerly awaits the 2008 season. |
